And its back! The intense 54-hour world-famous Startup Weekend (SW) event brought to you by the premier institute of technology and business—LUMS is back with a bang! After the roaring success of last year; the hundred participants from renowned institutes, the thirty mentors with inspiring backgrounds and the intellectually stimulating discussions and brilliant proposals have led to Startup Weekend Lahore 2013.

Destined to be bigger and better than its predecessors, Startup Weekend 2013 will again, focus on building an ICT (web or mobile) application which may form the basis of a credible business over the course of a weekend. This weekend will bring together people with different skill sets – primarily software developers, graphics designers and business people – to build applications and develop a commercial case around them. There is no excuse to miss this thrilling event–mark your calendars and start streamlining your dream ideas because this is the weekend where you get to make it all happen!

Jehan Ara

Jehan Ara is the President of the Pakistan Software Houses Association for IT & ITES (P@SHA. She has to a great degree been responsible for developing the P@SHA brand and for creating linkages between P@SHA and local and international partners.

Jehan has 29 years experience in Marketing, Communications and interactive New media in Hong Kong, the Far East, the UAE and Pakistan. She is a motivator, an entrepreneur, a social activist and a strong propagator of extending the power and use of Information and Communication Technologies beyond pure traditional business, to empower and enable communities. She is a regular speaker at seminars and conferences and at colleges and universities across Pakistan and the region. She also writes for various industry publications.

Policy Advocacy through the use of cutting edge technology is one of Jehan Ara’s passions. Cyber Crime, Privacy and Data Protection legislation are some of the things she is advocating for. She is currently also collaborating on an initiative called Take Back the Tech which is meant to create awareness on how technology can be harnessed to end Violence against Women and girls.

In addition to her role as President of the industry association, she is working on an initiative known as the Women’s Virtual Network which will connect educated women with potential employers, mentors and peers remotely, thus bringing more women into the economic fold and creating a community that will evolve into a support network for professional women.

Zehra Ali

Raised in Pakistan, graduated from MIT as a Mechanical engineer specializing in Building Technology. Zehra has over 5 years of experience in energy efficient housing and design and dissemination of
pro-environment and scalable energy technologies in developing countries.

She is the Founder and CEO of Ghonsla, an innovative technology company that provides sustainable and affordable insulation to underserved markets starting with Pakistan. Ghonsla has a global vision to increase the quality of life for people at every level of society, conserve precious environmental resources and create green jobs.

Since operating as a company in 2011, Ghonsla has installed insulation in over a 100 households, schools and offices ranging from Chitral to Sadiqabad - improving the indoor temperatures by over 10C and saving 30% energy for heating and cooling. In 2013, Ghonsla plans to reach over a 1000 households over Pakistan.

In addition to leading Ghonsla’s efforts, Zehra has designed and co-taught undergraduate and MBA courses on Social Entrepreneurship in Pakistan and is also an active advisor to the Babar Ali Foundation for increasing the impact of its scholarship portfolio.

Monis Rahman

Monis Rahman is the Chairman and CEO of Naseeb Networks, a leading provider of recruitment, social networking, classifieds and related services in Pakistan. He was #6 in Forbes Magazine list of "Ten Big Hitting Asian Businessmen under 50". Under his leadership, Naseeb Networks is Pakistan's 8th fastest growing private company according to the Harvard University Professor Michael Porter's AllWorld Pakistan Fast Growth 25 rankings, clocking in at 8,500% growth since 2007.
Monis launched ROZEE.PK in 2006 which is today Pakistan's most powerful recruiting platform. With over 50,000 employers and 10 Million professionals using the job portal, the company exceeds a 64% placement rate amongst its over 100 daily job postings. ROZEE.PK was visited by half of Pakistan's Internet population in 2012 and has experienced 18 consecutive quarters of growth. He has also served on the Central Executive Committee of the Pakistan Software Houses Association (P@SHA). He is the recipient of International Data Group CIO Pakistan Pioneer in Innovation 2008 award. He won the Pakistan Power 100 Excellence Award in 2012, an initiative promoting the 100 most powerful and influential Pakistani men and women globally. Monis is a TEDx speaker and frequently invited to talk on entrepreneurship and Internet marketing at some of the world's top business schools and conferences.

Afaque Riaz Ahmed

Afaque Ahmed holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering conferred upon him by the University of Texas at Austin, USA, and an MBA from McGill University, Montreal, Canada. He is the author of a successful blog “http://www.backtopakistan.com” which tries to influence successful Pakistanis living abroad to come back to their home country and serve the nation. Leading by example himself, he returned to Karachi in 2004 to play a role in the development of the IT industry in Pakistan. He took the non-traditional route and did not join the family’s textile business. In 2007, he founded the Breezecom group, a technology company now operating in 5 countries with a few hundred employees. The company portfolio specializes in telecommunications Research and Development, software product development and high-end technical services. The company now has a multi-national presence catering to 700 Telecom companies in over 25 countries around the world. He is also a founder and director of Robotics Labs, Karachi, a flagship company teaching children (ages 6 – 18 years old) how to make robots and related robotic sciences. The lab has become a unique opportunity for students of all ages to have hands-on experience of learning to program and develop 3-D models which are printed on state-of-the-art 3-D printers Over the last 8 years, he has sold a few technology companies that he himself founded, or bought and turned around, into profitable ventures. At the age of 39, Afaque has established the Education Enrichment Foundation, a not-for-profit section 42 registered company. The foundation has the immediate objective of creating a singular educational institution, on the lines of LUMS, that shall be iconic to the fairly empty Karachi academic skyline. The Karachi Institute of Technology and Entrepreneurship (KITE) shall be starting its classes in Fall 2012.

Zafar Khan

Performance Internet Based Marketer and Entrepreneur, who has bootstrapped his company to a multi-ten-million per year in sales per year. Focused on taking the organization to tackle more verticals and on maintaining the growth rate.

Nahil Mahmood

Nahil Mahmood is the Founder & CEO of Delta Tech Global. He has 15 years of experience in IT and holds a Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin, USA. Nahil is CCIE (Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert) and CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional) certified.
Other than being the CEO of Delta Tech Global, Nahil holds a number of leadership positions in IT:

Nahil is a Globally Certified facilitator for Franklin Covey Pakistan and facilitates courses on Leadership and Management throughout Pakistan. He also is frequent national and International speaker on cloud computing, Information Security, and IT. He has spoken in 2012 in Malaysia, Singapore, and Pakistan and was also invited to Chair two conferences on cloud computing in Singapore and Dubai in 2012.

Nabeel A. Qadeer

Nabeel A. Qadeer is a Project Manager by profession, with over eight years of managerial experience working in the areas of management information systems, business analysis and project management. He excels in organizing & managing various functions of a business, aligning and integrating them to work more efficiently, using the power of technology. Having successfully founded and operated a software development & consultancy firm with offices in two major cities of Pakistan, and a client base spanning across the Middle East, Asia and United Kingdom, he has ample experience in effective strategy development, positioning a brand in new markets, and managing end to end operations of an organization effectively.
Nabeel has been involved as a Project Manager with numerous SMEs across Pakistan helping them streamline and automate their business processes. The ability to align an organization’s business strategy with its technology strategy, streamlining its systems and procedures, managing change and building effective teams are some of his key strengths.
Nabeel has been a guest speaker in conferences like GITEX Dubai, LUMS Synergies, LUMS Marketing Colloquium and across several universities in United Kingdom and Pakistan on subjects relating to
entrepreneurship, business & technology. He is a Certified PMP, holds a Masters degree in Business & Management from University of Strathclyde Business School, UK and a Bachelors degree in Computer Science from FAST- NU Lahore, Pakistan respectively. Currently, he is heading Plan9.

Muhammad Nasrullah

I’m founder and Chief Technology Officer of Pring (Pvt) Ltd which is Pakistan’s largest Mobile Social Network. Pring has been recognized as a 2012 Global 100 Company in California by the iconic Red Herring. Red Herring’s editorial staff was one of the first to recognize Facebook, YouTube, Skype, Google and other major technological companies that have changed the way we live and work.

Over the past two years we’ve grown to about five million users, twice the rate of Facebook’s growth in Pakistan. The great thing about Pring is that it works whether you are online or offline with just SMS access. This creates an all-inclusive dialog with everyone.

Prior to e-Business, I co-foundedByteSense (Pvt) Ltd, a company formed to bridge the gap between the industry and telecommunications users.

I’ve done my Bachelors in Computer System Engineering from GIKI and fresh out of University I started my first startup Sixth Sense where we created computer based training courses for clients like the UN and ICWFD.

I then joined Ericsson as System Integrator and later Solution Architect. During my stay with Ericsson, I worked with Warid Telecom during its early expansion

Salman Naveed

Salman is the Pakistan Director at Invest2Innovate, and is involved in the development of the social-entrepreneurial pipeline in the country, mentoring programs, as well as engaging potential angel investors who are willing to look beyond the standard financial bottom-line while evaluating start-up businesses.

He has worked in Pakistan and the Middle East, and has over thirteen years of experience of developing and implementing bespoke consulting solutions to national and multinational organizations in the region. Salman was the co-founder of two services-oriented startups in Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, and is now permanently settled in Lahore. He attended the GIK Institute where he pursued a degree in Mechanical Engineering before moving on to domains that piqued his interest.

Zia Imran

Zia Imran was previously the Managing Director of Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB), a government owned company focused on increasing exports of IT and IT enables services from Pakistan to overseas markets. Before that he was the CEO VahZay (Pvt) Limited, a software and IT products and services company based in Lahore. He also served as the Chairman P@SHA, the industry trade body for IT industry, for the year 2009. Imran has taught a very popular course in Entrepreneurship at FAST, Lahore campus. Zia also consults with startups on business strategy, marketing and operations and has advised US companies set up joint ventures and globally outsourced operations. Zia has more than 16 years of experience working in Silicon Valley and globally at leading companies like Oracle, Altera and startups both in Silicon Valley, USA and in Pakistan. While at Oracle Consulting he worked with Fortune 500 companies leading Business Process Reengineering initiatives in Finance, Order Processing and Supply Chain Management. He also led a product management group responsible for implementing best practices across the CRM product line. Zia is a serial entrepreneur who previously started a software development tools company in Silicon Valley arguably pushing the state of the art in this area to next level. His educational background includes an MBA in Finance and Entrepreneurship from University of Chicago, Booth School of Business and a Masters in Electrical Engineering from Cornell University. He earned his B.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering from University of Engineering and Technology Lahore. His areas of interest are hi-tech ventures, hi-tech entrepreneurship, development economics, finance, corporate governance and the practice of entrepreneurship.

Badar Khushnood

He calls himself a 360 degrees digital marketing professional, consultant, speaker and trainer. But in reality he is a mutant (good looking one!) who can captivate the audience in no time. Google would not have found a better person than him to represent Google in Pakistan.

Shehryar Hydri

Shehryar has over fifteen years of wide ranging experience covering Technology, Media and Communication. He has worked
in strategy defining roles for technology firms in addition to being a core founding member in media and tech startups.

In 2004, he co-founded Trango Interactive, an award winning game development and animation studio that is listed in the Red Herring Asia 100 and works with top global brands such as Nike, Discovery Channel, Lucas Arts, Lexus, Audi, Toyota, Mazda, UPS, Reebok and Konami.

Shehryar is also part of the founding team and on the Board of Scrybe Inc, an Adobe funded company known for its ground breaking service called Convo.com, the most powerful social network for the enterprise.

Shehryar is also an advisor for several promising tech startups in Pakistan. He holds an MBA from the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), Karachi.

Hussain Nasir

I have several years of international business experience as a successful entrepreneur. I co-own a software export company called Rolustech. We have offices in Pakistan, UK and USA with over 150 clients in 25 countries. We are the sole partners of SugarCRM Inc USA in Pakistan.
Rolustech specializes in open source web technologies and complementing mobile technologies. We are a team of highly qualified and dedicated individuals with an interestingly proficient mix of professional backgrounds.
We as an organization provide employment opportunities to highly skilled engineers from some of the top universities along with exporting man hours to generate revenue and foreign
exchange for our country.
Hussain Nasir as an individual is extremely passionate about Business, crazy about Sports and dedicated to his Family. I am also interested in imparting knowledge and guidance to those who are perpetually seeking to learn. My specialization is International Customer Relationship

Yasser Bashir

Yasser Bashir is the found and CEO of Arbisoft (Pvt.) Ltd - a software and technology development company named among the fastest growing software services businesses in Pakistan by the AllWorld Network. Arbisoft employs over 100 people and has built partnerships with some of the leading technology businesses and institutions around the world. Yasser is also the CEO and founder of DeepPixels which is a medical image processing company. Before the start of his entrepreneurial journey, Yasser held key positions at Orthoclear, Align Technology and WorldWerx.

Yasser received a BS from the Lahore University of Management Sciences and an MS from Stanford University.

Murad Akhter

As Co-Founder and CEO of Tintash, Murad leads a talented and passionate team of Mobile Game and App Developers, Designers, Producers and Artists. Over the past 6 years he has been responsible for grooming and hiring top talent, and driving product development of top-tiered mobile games such as Woody Woodpecker and StickCricket as well as for striking distribution and development deals with renowned game studios and brands such as Digital Chocolate, Playfirst, Universal Studios and BBC Worldwide.

Murad has over 10 years of experience in product management and software development in the high-tech industry. Prior to Tintash, he worked in Silicon Valley at Apple Computer on flagship products such as the company’s first line of 64-bit systems as well as its transition from PowerPC chips to Intel’s multi-core processors. He later worked on jukebox and VOIP applications for the Ultra-Mobile PC platform at Microsoft before starting Tintash in 2007. Murad graduated from Stanford University with an MS and BS in Computer Science.

Nevil Patel

Nevil has more than 25 years of experience in Information Technology and managing companies and teams
that provide high quality software solutions in secured environments for overseas clients in the US and
Denmark.
He is a Certified Information System Auditor with a strong understanding of the prepaid card industry built
while managing the information security and regulatory compliance requirements for a global prepaid card
processor – i2c Inc - where he currently serves as Vice President, Operations.
Before joining i2c, Patel served as Chief Operating Officer at Pi Sigma Group where he built their startup
Geopaq and enabled its successful acquisition within two years for $10 million.
Prior to that, Patel served as Vice President of Operations at CresSoft. Where he led teams to implement
technology based solutions for Global 500 companies like MCI, Northwest Airlines, BP-Amaco, GN
Netcom, Aspen Technologies, etc. His single largest project had 80+ offshore resources and grossed about
US $ 12 million in four years.

Ahmed Shuja

Founder and Interaction Designer at Obscure UX, Ahmed has been designing usable and intuitive desktop, web, and mobile applications since 1997. After working as an Interaction Designer in the UK for a Philips partner firm, Ahmed came back to establish Pakistan's first Usability and User Experience Design Consultancy, providing UX/UI design, testing, and training services to a wide array of clients from USA to Australia and almost all timezones in between - from bootstrapped tech startups to banking and telecom giants alike.

Ahmed holds a BSc in Computer Sciences from UET, Lahore and a MSc in Human-Computer Interaction with Ergonomics from University College London, University of London. Ahmed's experience also includes teaching faculty and researcher roles at various universities in Pakistan. A champion of user-centered design, Ahmed regularly advises technology & social startups, writes, conducts design workshops, and presents at industry events.

Babar Ahmed

In the short time frame of a few years, Babar has established and grown the studio to become a leading force in Pakistan’s gaming industry, launching some of the country’s most prolific and successful games to date and putting Pakistan on the global game development map.

Babar holds a Masters degree in Electrical Engineering and Management Science from Stanford Univeristy, and a Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering from the the University of Texas at Austin.

Coaches

Sameer Noorani

Sameer has been a management consultant with McKinsey & Company for over 5 years where he advised and guided top management across industries on commercial and operation strategy, prior to which he was a banker for 3 years in wealth management and global markets. Sameer Noorani has recently returned to Pakistan in early 2013 and is pursuing a few exciting ventures.

Sameer has an MBA from INSEAD and a B.Sc. from LUMS.

Sajjad Kirmani

Sajjad Kirmani is the Founder and CEO of INFOGISTIC, a recently established start-up. He has several years of senior leadership experience in the IT industry. He can be considered among the leading CIOs of the country as he won the CIO of the Year Award in 2010 for his outstanding work as Director IT & Operations at NetSol Technologies. During his 14 years tenure with NetSol, he had helped transform it from a small IT services company to a global software business with an impressive customer base including some of the world’s best known companies. He was also instrumental in carrying out several groundbreaking initiatives, including NetSol´s emergence as the leading IT exporter and the first CMMI Level 5 Company in Pakistan.

Sajjad holds a Master´s degree in Computer Sciences from University of London along with a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from IBA. He is the President of IBA Alumni Association and has been the Vice President of Pakistan Software Houses Association (PASHA).

Saj Khan

Ahrar Naqvi

Ahrar has 18 years of experience in software and hardware systems development both in the context of product development and providing outsourced engineering services. Ahrar is currently the CEO of Ebryx, which works with Silicon Valley start-ups in long term product development, testing and support engagements in domains including cloud telephony, social networking, mobile applications, network security and telecommunications. Ahrar also serves as the VP Engineering of Sales Portal, a VC funded Silicon Valley start-up offering a SaaS application to the direct marketing industry. In the past, Ahrar was the GM Pakistan and EVP Engineering at Palmchip where he oversaw internal product development initiatives and provided engineering services in chip design on the hardware side and software development services in security, storage, web and telecom domains. Before Palmchip, Ahrar worked as Chief Architect and Director Engineering at Veraz Networks a company funded by premiere VCs such as Kleiner Perkins and Norwest Ventures that saw an IPO followed by acquisition by Dialogic. Before Veraz, Ahrar worked as a Senior Development Manager at Oracle where he was the architect of Service Delivery Platform, a product that was later incorporated into Oracle's eBusiness Suite and saw deployment at major telecom carriers worldwide. Prior to Oracle Ahrar worked as a Team Lead at a Baby Bell's technologies development group and developed award winning applications for service activation. Ahrar has an MS in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University.

Umair Javed

Umair Javed, founder & CEO of TkXel, has over 10 years of software industry experience in progressively increasing responsibility positions. A workaholic who specializes in creating high performance product and services teams, he twice created a company from university lab and took it to multi-million dollar stage.

His current venture is tkxel which is a leading technology company in the mobile and social space. Founded in 2008, inside a lab, tkxel started as a services company which quickly went on to sign several big names among Fortune 500 as its customers. The more recent success under tkxel is the launch of a fast growing kids mobile gaming brand, which has already generated 6M+ downloads since its inception a few months back.

Besides Industry, Umair has a long affiliation with academia and love for teaching. After receiving his MS with a Gold Medal from LUMS, he went on to teach various MS and senior year CS courses at LUMS and other top universities, for over eight years as an adjunct faculty.

Owais Anjum

Owais is the co-founder of Cricout, a product that brings social and crowdsourcing element to way cricket is followed online. The company was initiated over a year ago, was bootstrapped for the first 10 months, and has recently raised seed capital from the US for launch and expansion. Overall, Owais has 15 years of experience in technology, management and leadership and has built and scaled development organizations both in USA & Pakistan. His previous stint was with a silicon valley based company, Numetrics Inc., where he initiated and scaled the company from the first hire to 30 people and eventually had 90% engineering done in Pakistan. An artist by hobby, Owais is an avid student & evangelist of UI and UX design. He has a bachelors in Computer Science from GIK Institute, and an MBA from San Jose State University, California.

Fahad Yaqub

Founding team member at Scrybe. 7 years of hard core coding experience on desktop, web and mobile. Interested in cutting edge technology and creativesolutions to real world problems. Passionate about team building.

Syed Irfan

Syed Irfan Ahmad has 20 years of working experience in the local and US software market. He holds a masters degree in Computer Sciences and has completed many courses and workshops related to enterprise software, project management, and soft skills development.
Irfan has vast experience of working on different roles from time to time. Before joining Delta Tech, he has been working as Enterprise IT Consultant, delivering software projects in the US market working in the capacity of Off-shore Manager and has worked as Business Analyst, Project Manager, Team Leader, and Designer/Architect.
Irfan is always eager to train and guide young professionals, volunteers for betterment and improvement, and tries to bring true professionalism in the environment he works in. He is a believer that professionalism is the key to everything.
Irfan’s passion is to develop smart, economical, and optimized enterprise systems that can positively add value to a business and help achieve its goals. He has very good skills in business analysis and planning.

Abbas Yousafzai

UT Austin grad in CS. Minor in Math and Astronomy. 15 years of tech experience. Have been part of 3 startups in the U.S, 2 of which had a successful exit, sold to SAP and i2 Technologies before Conrad Labs. At Conrad Labs, primarily working with cutting edge startups some of which have been acquired / absorbed by high profile companies such as RackSpace, IBM, Groupon to name a few.

Ahsan Saleem

Ahsan likes to be on stage and thinks presentations should be fun and exciting. A Carnegie Mellon University alum, Ahsan worked at IBM previously as a Consultant before joining Confiz as an Engagement Manager.

Abbas Shahid Baqir

Abbas Shahid Baqir (Managing Director) Student Shelter In Computers (http://www.stscomps.com/). This company from Pakistan was named to the first-ever Pakistan Fast Growth 100 fastest Information Technology & Education (Pakistan 100) ranking. The company achieved a growth rate of 260% between 2008 and 2012 and was Ranked-11 in Pakistan 100 & Rank-26 in Arabia 500. Abbas Shahid Baqir became the youngest Entrepreneur of All World, Arabia 500 & Pakistan 100. He has won 03 Gold Medal Awards.

Huma Qureshi

I have seven years of experience in the software industry with more than five years at Microsoft, where I contributed in software development and technical management. Specifically I worked on SharePoint and Windows Azure development tools for Visual Studio. I have a strong educational background with MS Computer Science from the University of Washington and BS Computer Science with distinction from National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences (FAST-NU), Lahore.

Kamran Kundi

Kamran did his Masters in Software Engineering from University of Texas at Dallas. He currently manages the global development team for IBM InfoSphere MDM products. He also worked for Texas Instruments after graduating from GIKI for a few year before joining a startup company which was later acquired by IBM.
